Commercialisation
Commercialisation of quantum computing and communication research in Australia

Australian researchers are at the forefront of quantum information research and CQC2T is on a mission to support world-leading IP and create economic value in Australia. CQC2T’s ultimate aim is to ensure that the Australian economy benefits from the full range of quantum information systems and industry solutions developed in Australia.

It is estimated that industries comprising approximately 40% of Australia’s current economy could be significantly impacted by quantum computing. Possible applications include machine learning, scheduling and logistical planning, financial analysis, stock market modelling, software and hardware verification, climate modelling, rapid drug design and testing, and early disease detection and prevention.

The Centre is leading the charge to commercialise quantum computing and communication research in Australia, with several companies being launched in collaboration with government and industry including CQC2T partners Silicon Quantum Computing Pty. Ltd. and Quintessence Labs.

Australia’s first Silicon Quantum Company

Silicon Quantum Computing Pty. Ltd. (SQC) is working to create and commercialise a silicon-based quantum computer based on world leading intellectual property acquired from the Australian Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology. SQC’s goal is to develop a 10-qubit quantum integrated circuit prototype in silicon by 2022. In parallel the Centre of Excellence is working to design scalable architectures, with high frequency multiplexing  and error correction.

SQC currently has parallel platforms for creating a silicon-based quantum computer using atomically engineered phosphorus donors, quantum dots using CMOS technology and hybrids.

SQC is owned by the Australian Government, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), Telstra, the University of NSW (UNSW) and the NSW State Government.

The Global Leader in Quantum Cybersecurity

Quintessence Labs has been a formal Partner Investigator of CQC2T since 2011.

Founded in 2008 in Canberra, Australia, QuintessenceLabs has commercialised quantum cyber-security solutions and is the global leader in this arena. QuintessenceLabs solutions combine centralised enterprise key and policy management, a high-speed quantum random number generator, with an integrated hardware security module, to deliver the strongest foundation for data protection. QuintessenceLabs is also at the forefront of the development of quantum key distribution.

The company has collaborated closely from a research perspective with the CQC2T nodes at the University of Queensland and Australian National University.
